Derba MIDROC announced that it has finalized a study to carry out sugar development with 300 million USD in order to meet the growing domestic demand in Ethiopia.

Speaking at a workshop organized to evaluate the feasibility study of the sugar development, Derba MIDROC Executive Director, Haile Assegide said sugar development would be launched soon to efficiently meet the sugar demand in the country.

He said a detailed study that meant to develop sugar beet on over 30,000 hectares of land in Amhara State is completed.

The study included variety test, test production as well as effectiveness of various pesticide and herbicide chemicals.

Moreover, Derba MIDROC is working in collaboration with the two known tropical sugar beet distributing companies, Syngenta Seeds and Eridania, to facilitate the sugar development activities, the Executive Director said.

Derba MIDROC would develop up to 70 percent of the raw material for the sugar production, while farmers residing in adjacent areas would develop and supply the balance, according to Haile.

Derba MIDROC would enter to actual production within the coming five years, and has plans to export sugar after meeting local demand, he indicated.

Participants drawn from the Amhara State and internationally renowned crop researchers and experts were converged at the workshop, it was learnt.

Although I am the victim of Woyane,and think the most thing I hate in the world is woyane ,I belive sheik alamoudi is doing remarkable job in Ethiopia. Alomoudi is doing great. Anyone should not hate him.we need to see further far for Ethiopia .He is a resource to the country.woyane(the snake) has done a lot to make Ethiopian hate Alamoudi.

Go sheik. Thank you. But you need a lot of work to make the product familiar with the people of ethiopia. Sugar from a sugar beet is does not have same taste that we have now from sugarcane. Cane sugar is nice and strong one. Little is enough to give taste than beet sugar.

The weyane regime is attacking Alamoudi left and right. The are taking back the contracts Midroc won and bad mouthing the Shiek as if he is engulfed with debt from the National Bank. The semi govenment paper The reporter is doing the mission. The investiment may be good but he is collaborating with a killer. It is also not known all the investiments are properly done so that they be useful to the Ethiopian people and the country. Besides the farmers should be properly compenstated when they are removed from their land and they have to be a direct beneficiary of this investment.
