Al Amoudi showers ESFNA with a gift of $300,000 - Abugida

June 26th, 2008 Print Print Email Email

Al Amoudi showers ESFNA (Ethiopian Sports Federation in North America) with a gift of $300,000 and ESFNA lavishes praise on Al Amoudi in return. Here is the statement given by ESFNA after receiving the money:

THANK YOU DR. SHEIKH MOHAMMED HUSSIEN ALAMUDI
The entire family of ESFNA, players, coaches, board members and Executive Committee members etc., would like to say “Thank You” to Dr. Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Alamudi for his generous gift of $300,000 to our organization. It should be noted that this is not the first time Sheikh Alamudi has given a large amount of money to help and encourage ESFNA. In the year 2002, he donated $450,000 that helped our organization reach new heights.
Again, thank you and we wish you good health and long life.

Ethiosun, a pro democracy website urges you to boycott Ethiopian Sports Federation in North America’s (ESFNA’s) 25th celebrations that will be held in Washington this weekend (starting June 28, 2008). Here is the letter we received this morning:alamoudi_400.gif

Dear Ethiopian and Ethiopian Americans:

On the behalf of Ethiopians under tyranny, we urge your to boycott the ESFANA’s 25th celebrations that will be held in Washington this weekend (starting June 28, 2008). ESFANA’s 25th celebration that is sponsored by the Ethiopian repressive regime and its associates (Al Moudi etal *) insult over 80 million Ethiopians who are under tyranny and almost a million of Ethiopian Americans living in the USA. It also undermines the Diaspora’s struggle for freedom and democracy.

A Letter from one of our viewers:

ESFNA Should Be Reminded - by Joe Michael

The Ethiopian Sport Federation in North America (ESFNA) is a money-spinning organization owned by few individuals who never care for sport at all. The organization maintained its tax exempt status from the Federal and State governments by claiming that it is a non-profit organization, and it doesn’t affiliate with any political group. Ironically, each year thousands of Ethiopians are required to pay fees to watch soccer tournaments; people with political motivation and affiliation have been making donations; soccer tournament gatherings have been used as a juncture for political propaganda, etc.

The leadership of ESFNA has been advised in multiple occasions to be isolated from any politically motivated donation, and to make it clear to the public how much money they are making each year. Since all donations and business profits have been utilized in the name of ‘assisting Ethiopians’, the public has a right to know if the funds have been used for what they were originally obligated for- that is assisting Ethiopians.

ESFNA has been urged numerous times to provide articulated financial records attesting the allocation of funds. To date, no one, except the so called ESFNA executives know how much money ESFNA has raised in the name of Ethiopians, and how much of the money were justifiably spent.

Recently, we learned that ESFNA received a donation of $300,000 from the Ethiopian tycoon, who is a close ally of the current Ethiopian regime. While the motive behind such a huge money donation is mysterious, one thing is very clear for most of us that once again, the ESFNA collected the money in the name of assisting Ethiopians.

Although we appreciate the social gathering opportunity facilitated by the annual soccer tournament, we all hate to see our Ethiopian identity being used to raise money for no other reason than boosting few individuals’ prosperity.

ESFNA should be reminded of its legal obligations that sport gatherings cannot be used as a means for political propaganda, donations should not be collected from politically driven donors, and the public must be informed about the expenditure of funds received from the sale of tournament tickets and donations.

What is your stance? Do you think Ethiopians as well as Ethiopian Americans should boycott this year’s tournament?

Have your say!

My question is not why Alamudi gives money to ESFNA but where millon of dollars collected at the event goes?

Ethiopia has powerful enemies like World Bank, IMF and the owners. The root of all problem lies there. We are barking on wrong tree. I don’t think, Alamudi is as lethal enemy to Ethiopa as neocolonizers.

Whenever Ethiopians gather and have a good time, good communication and interaction like this, our enemies don’t like it. Please celebrate this one. This event was happening even during the derg era and it will be there for the next generation.
    thank you.

    Dear innocent Ethiopians,

If the story is verfied and true, it would be extremely disturbing to accept the so-called gift money which is given by a person who strongly swears to sarifice what he has for TPLE to continue its evil poltical agenda including putting the very survival of the country in a very serious danger.

this is the time for espna to be on the side of 80m ethiopiams or with handfull enemies of the people like meles and alamudin. if u r 4 money ok go head but if u stand with people ignore the money other wise i call on all ethiopians to boycot this event. they control us in ethiopia not here in the free world stand for truth and freeodom . after all 4 million ethiopians r in stravation right now why meles and alamudin first help the hungry ethiopians first instead of doing prpopaganda work under the name sport?

I donot know how to comment on this issue if it is true that Alamudin has given any amount of money I think it is wrong to accept it just because he is supporting TPLF,they are not Ethiopians and they donot represent the people of Tigray.I hope evrybody knows they are the most ethnocentric, mafia, brutal and terrorist regime on earth and we have to tell to the ESFNA Committe that if they take money from him we have to change all of them and put new committe we have to know any body who support a friend of tplf is our enemy.I donot think esfna have economical problem.

  14. June 27th, 2008 at 09:59 | #14

    Dear Ethiopians,

The TPLF CADRES/ SUPPORTERS/ SEREAVNTS may try to convince us by saying that “sport is not politics”. But, we need to tell them clearly that we are not talking about mere politics. We are highly concerned about the very essence of human rights, and sport is for friendship, peace- loving people, not for killres of their own people. It is based on this fact that we have to completely and strongly say NO to a person who tries to undermine/ insult our intelligence/self-confidence.

Can any one tell me exactly why we hate Alamudi so much lately? Is that because of his support publicly for Weyane during 1997 election?

Believe me; he doesn’t need ESFANA or us to destroy Ethiopia. What is the role of Alamudi in the massacre of fellow Muslims by mercenary Melese?

To me, Allamudi may genuinely want to help Ethiopia. Unfortunately, it is beyond his scope of understanding or capacity to alter Meles’s mission from his handlers, the neocolonizers.

ESFNA, collects millions of dollar every year from the particpants, from renting spaces on the event, and donnation, but i have never seen any humaniterian assistantc to thier fellow ethiopians, so where is the mony? They have to show for the public thier financial record and how it is allocated. They can not promote thier agenda and make personal profit by the name of Ethiopians. About Alamoudi, like all of us he have the right which part to support even if we don’t agree with him. i admire him for what he is doing for the country and with respect i disagree from his poltical ideology.

  20. June 28th, 2008 at 11:33 | #20

    Dear Mammo,

Are you telling us that Alamudin, the tycoon is not well aware and cannot do any thing about the plight of the Ethiopian people while he himself is saying he is determined to do whatever he can for the TPLF regime - including staying in power by killing???

Some people try to convince us that Alamudin is a very nice guy because he extends his financial help to individuals who needs medical treatment. Does this kind of “kindness” justify that it is ok for him to support a regime that is killing our generation? This is so naive and irresponsible.

Dear Ethiopinas, let’s not please allow these people kill us not only once, but so many times.

    June 28th, 2008 at 14:25 | #21

I agree with all what Dawit said.

    TG,

First of all; no one is giving us enough evidence to incriminate Alumudi as agent in dismantling Ethiopian Empire like Meles/his group does. Melese is an agent and under direct control of powerful nations to destroy Ethiopia and its neighbors. Look at Somalia, which is located at the forefront of “new world order” radar. It is not any more secrete what may happen in the near future between Ethiopia/ Sudan, Ethiopia/Eritrea and the fate of Ethiopa.

Alamudi is a foolish Arab who partially subsidizes the neocolonizers’ project. Oppositions should play smarter than melese and his handlers. We can’t afford colliding head on with Alamudi.

It is unfortunate our generation is full of hodame. They give them self for SLAVERY by selling away their freedom. Our fathers during those days they die for their dignity. The ESFNA SCANDAL IS THE WORST ONE. They are calming representing Ethiopian in North America and yet they are trying to sells us out for dictators. I think as far as my concern I believe that they don’t represent us.
There are a lot of things they are doing which the Ethiopian people in Diaspora don’t hear. In 2006 in LA(CALFORNIA) they were tried to invite the Ethiopian Embassy counselor as a guest speaker. However, their plan was canceled because Ethiopians like Meron Ahadu was part of the organizer. Last year in Dallas it was a big fight on Ethiopian day and they purposely disconnect the electric system when people were trying to be vocal regarding what is going on in Ethiopia. I am not surprise for this year $300,000 give away donation to find away to suppress the diaspora politics from Ethiopia. The money didn’t just came. A few members of the federation had a visit in Sheraton Addis the first few month of this year and had a great time in Sheraton hotel. Some of them are a friend of Abanet. The disconnected donation since 2002 didn’t just came all of the second. It was planned and delivered deliberately and for that ESFNA publicly acknowledged the gold digger Alomudi who became one of the top African billionaire after he was given the majority of the country resources without any public account. The acknowledgment was also announced by Ethiopian television on be half of Ethiopian in North America. I have a dignity and I stand for my freedom. I work hard to show an example to my family by guiding them to respect those who respect them self and to be far away specially from those people who sell away themselves for money because they don’t have dignity and their relationship is dangerous. Their is no way ESFNA to represent me and send acknowledgment in my name and on the name of Ethiopian in North America. This will break my people heart back home. If you choice to sell your self you have a right to join them because we are in America. Just to remind you in our recen election back home in April 2008. People were not given a choice. They were told to vote if they didn’t vote. They were told they will loose their job. But
I have a choice and you have a choice. I want you to have a clear conciseness and think and choice. If you want to sell YOUR FREEDOM let it be and you are welcome to JOIN ESFNA. But if you want your freedom do the right thing. We are in America and free to choice but let respect each other since our choice will speak about us.

I am wondering the ” tsinfegna” or conservative guys trying to make or expect everyone to be in their side. i dont see the different between weyane and these guys destroying our identity and national security. Some of you have a real problem of criticizing everything what is being and has been done. I havent heard anyone organizing a fund rising for event for the famine affected brothers and sisters back home. why you are quite now . which one is the most urgent? I though this was the right time our people need our solidarity irrespective of our political view. Most of you guys do know how to criticized but have little vision how to develop democratic society. You know that Ethiopians in DC, dont greet each other well despite sitting together in Bus, Metro and the likes . Let us solve our real problems in ourselves step by step instead of trying to kill the only positive trend we have so far in the US.
Boycotting ESFNA tournament, what i understand from few non visionary guy, who proposed this idea is dangerous intention to destroy what we have left so far as a good asset built in the last 25 years. this was the only non politically motivated social gathering ,some people are trying politicizing it. please leave us alone at least for the time being of your hate politics.Just criticizing without giving alternative is nonsense.

let us think positive and guide the innocent Ethiopians in the right way

What is your point? Why are you flip floping? Are you one of the hodams? have at least the courage to say that you are hodam. Alamoudin is a heartless pig. If he was a human being those who need financial help are not found in America, they are in Ethiopia suffering from the savage leadership and the resulting famine. Why the hell is this fiasco of ESFNA organized anyway? Is this the time for Ethiopians to wine and dine? Shame on everyone who doesn’t feel ashamed in the face of international begging campaign to save the lives of our brothers and sisters. Envy eats the jealous from within and eventually leads to maddness.
Here are some who dare criticize a person who helps his fellow ethiopians. Where are the Somali or Eritrean rich? What have they done to help their people?
Ethiopians had always been generous will stay generous. You can die of envy but this wealthy individual is doing his best to help his country. He is the biggest investor and employs hundreds of thousands of people.
If people question his motives, ask all of his employees and people that he touched.
Did you know that Eritreans begged him to invest in their country during the good old days and he refused because he saw thrrough their plastic smiles.
People envy him because he started from scratch and made it. He is not greedy like most Eritreans so he invests with his heart.
Shame on you people who dare criticize his generosity. Even some of the authors here might have been touched by his generosity but they are blinded by hate and stupid to realize what the implications lead to.
Ignorance is the greatsest disservice to humanity

Look at the hundreds of investments in Ethiopia.
What is wrong with donating money to soccer federation which doing its best to gather Ethiopians together, free of politics?

What about the Shabia that comes to your weddings, put a flag and a desk and try to salvage money from drunk Eritreans?
What about the shabia who is trying to embezzel money from their diaspora by conning them to invest in Eritrean oil-gold prospects?
What about the shabia dogs who extort money from their greedy citizens to fatten their own bank accounts?
You Eritreans are to blame for your own nighmare not Ethiopians and definitly not our investors.
What about your mafia government that forces you to refinance your homes to donate your hard earned money to a prospectless cause?
Shut the hell up and enjoy the soccer turnaments and wonder how Ethipians enjoy life in dc.
Leave Ethiopians alone and languish in your own self-imposed misery.

Alamudi is an individual who has the right to support whatever political party he thinks is good for him, his business and the people in general. You are crying this much only because he has put on an EPRDF t-shirt during the past election time. Do you know that he can even back EPRDF in every thing. You are living in USA and have seen many elections. The candidates and their party are funded by every able individuals. Yet you guys blinded by hatred can not reflect. My recommendation for you is : try to stablish a party who can be better than EPRDF and win the heart of the investors and every group who are backing EPRDF now. Then democracy will start to propel in our blessed land. But just don’t hate an individual for something he can not change and open your big mouse.
